EFFECT OF TEACHERS' FEEDBACK STRATEGIES ON MATHEMATICAL LEARNING AT SECONDARY LEVEL

Abstract

Teacher uses many strategies to realize the national aims of the country through teaching. The feedback strategies hold prominent place for the efficacy of teaching-learning process. The study entitled “Effect of teacher feedback strategies on mathematical learning at secondary level” was conducted through survey method that was qualitative in nature. A focused group discussion of mathematics’ teachers was conducted to explore feedback strategies. This study was delimited to written feedback strategies only. Rubrics were developed as research instrument and data was collected. Two observations of teachers’ written feedback were recorded from the same mathematics note-books of the students to examine the effect of teachers’ feedback strategies on their learning in specific time period. The sample consisted of 240 mathematics note-books of students from randomly selected schools. The total responses received were 236. A five level Likert scale was used to determine the effect of teachers’ feedback strategies on mathematical learning. Independent sample t. test was used to determine difference in effect of teachers’ feedback strategies. Regression analysis results revealed that all feedback strategies are being used by teachers and feedback increase mathematical learning by 6% at secondary level. Furthermore, the female teachers are implementing these strategies effectively.
