Abstract

Proficient writing skill is a universal goal for all students. Writing has been identified as one of the most essential skills because the world has become so text-oriented. Though writing is foundation upon which all academics is constructed but little attention is paid to the development of writing. Creative writing and quality of writing has always been problem for students. The motive behind this study is how our day to day practice is helpful in developing writing skill. The primary objective of the study is focused to explore the impact of formative assessment on writing skill. This study investigated the deficiencies of students’ writing and the impact of formative assessment in the improvement of academic writing. Formative assessment is adopted during instruction in order to improve teaching and make new adjustment for better learning. Formative assessment is proved useful when an error analysis tool is created and used as feedback. This research is based on the data collected through questionnaire in a survey and responses from students have been collected to explore their views about the impact of formative assessment on writing. The main outcome of this study was that the different strategies had the positive impact in developing writing. Different activities as essay writing, summary, answering questioning technique, presentations, minutes detail essay, discussions, assignment writing and other classroom activities are helpful in developing writing. So this study has focused on all those activities which engage both teacher and learner providing formative feedback, improving teaching and learning process and assessing teacher and learners and these are also helpful in developing writing skill. In formative assessment teaching is used to meet the needs of the students according to required criteria.
